How might someone get the idea to live in a van? There were lots of reasons for it, and when we weighed the pros and cons, this came out on top.
One thing was that we didn't want to keep paying expensive rent in Prague when we didn't even need to be there most of the time. The mobility of living in a van seemed like a great advantage. Plus, we wanted to invest the rent money into something of our own. And we wanted to travel. Leo already had some experience living in a camper from Canada. And you can also find a lot of information about it online, so it wasn't like inventing something completely from scratch.
From all of this combined, living in a van or camper came out as the best option. So we went to look at several vehicles. We had saved up some money and we really thought that buying a ready-made camper would be great. But we couldn't find anything cheaper and in running condition. We didn't want to spend half a million on it, especially since we were planning to do some renovations anyway, which would cost more money. So in the end, an old van that even had a fridge and an awning came out best!

And then it was fast – moving out of Prague to mom's place, buying stuff for the conversion, and then just starting. We were inspired by lots of similar projects online. In America, it's a pretty popular way of living, they just have it a bit more relaxed there. Here you have to follow all the regulations – so it fits on paper and you can't just add whatever you want to the vehicle. But across the ocean, you can buy a school bus, rip out the seats, put in a living room and kitchen instead, and you're done. And you can drive it with a regular driver's license!
We also invented a lot of things ourselves, like the bathroom or water heater. We put a lot together on the fly, we didn't have the whole project thought out in advance. So sometimes we'd finish something and then remember we actually wanted something else there too! Well, there are things I'd probably do a bit differently if there was more time...

It was a slightly spontaneous decision, without a plan and with a somewhat naive idea of how simple it would be. But with the vision of that goal, where you can go wherever you want, you're completely free, and the whole world is basically your porch! Come on, tell me – who among you wouldn't want to experience that, at least for a little while?
